and i also think that mitt romney has come off a series of really easy debates. we have to remember, mitt romney triumphed in a republican presidential field that was the worst republican presidential field in the history of the republican party. those are the debates he won. he was the one on the stage who did not look outright insane, compared to the rest of them. that isn't going to work for him tonight. he's going against the best debater mitt romney has ever been up against in his life. this is going to be, i think, a really great debate. >> preparing for this, i went back and looked at some of the 1994 debates between romney and kennedy, looking at some of that to see, you know, how does he deal with a democratic opponent? we've seen him debate a lot of republicans, but not a lot of democrats. and if it's half as fun as it was between him and ted kennedy, we are in for a very, very fun night ahead. lawrence, thank you for that, particularly on the rules. i think that was a really important point. we'll talk with you again soon. we are going to be getting mo

i don't think mitt romney will be able to do that effectively during the course of the debate, because in the debate he has to try to appeal to the middle. i think they wanted to get a little something out there for the base, so is that they would have -- so that today they could be, you know, talking about that horrible, you know, barack obama, the black man, in advance of the debate. >> yeah, absolutely, shock, horror, barack obama is a black man. michael, i've read your outstanding piece in which you talk about the fact that the process of fact-checking by voters has actually declined. it's almost a suggestion we've had so many lies through this campaign, and i can think of at least 60 delivered by the romney/ryan camp, that people are just not responding to it anymore. >> you know, the irony is the press is actually much better at calling out these deceptions but the public has not yet shown they are willing to move on these deceptions. they don't -- they for give their own guy for deceiving and they love blaming the other guy for deceiving. there hasn't been any punishment. if you

which mitt romney is the one that shows up to the next debate? which is the one that shows up the day after the election? and that's where the president has to take this conversation. is it the mitt romney on foreign policy who said when iran captured that drone it was a reason to go to war? or is it the much more moderated guy who said let's just carry on doing what we're doing. iran could hardly have any type of sanctions. the economy is in freefall right now. what can you get your arms around with this candidate? makes him a very difficult debate opponent. but in that moment, in that debate when he's pivoting and flip-flopping and all over the place, you've got to confront him, otherwise you are not stepping up -- >> the problem is, let's just say with barack obama isn't the problem he's not a great debater and he's not nimble on his feet. because you are a lot of other people could stand across the stage from mitt romney and say that. >> it's easy to do it from the sidelines. >> the president is not a good debater. >> there was a moment, simi

he's had a great debate. the speech when the president, there's an opening to attack the president on foreign policy. he's still hurt on the benghazi issue. there's room for him to grow there so that's also very important. >> joel, let's get in to that as susan brings up about benghazi. a topic americans want the know more about and the language today on libya is strongest yet heard on that topic. the governor expected to say in the early excerpts as the administration has finally conceded the attacks with a deliberate work of terrorists to impose the dark ideology on others and women and girls fighting to control much of the at least today and who speak to wage war on the west. certainly a lot of new questions, joel, about the administration's response, the current investigation in to that attack in libya and ambassador stevens killed and three other americans and someone that worked in the state department and knew the ambassador, do you think that the administration dropped the ball? >> the speech today is

right now, at this very moment, mitt romney and barack obama are holed up in last-minute debate prep for tomorrow night's main event. speaking to a volunteer nevada yaeds, president obama made it sound like a college cram session minus the no doze and pizza. >> basically they're keeping me indoors all the time. it's a drag. they're making me do my homework. >> governor romney, however, may have twice the work load. he'll have two opponents on stage tomorrow, president obama and himself. eugene robinson write in "the washington post" -- it prompts to be an epic clash. mitt romney versus mitt romney. oh. and president obama will be there too. this conundrum of what we'll call the paradox of the mittens, dates back to 1994 when senator ted kennedy dropped this debate heat rock. >> on the question of the choice issue, i have supported the row v raid wade, i am pro choice, my opponent is multiple choice. >> so which bubble will the multiple choice candidate fill in on tomorrow night's test? which mitt will triumph on stage. even members of the conservative establishment aren't sure. bill
